Sprint has officially announced that the Android 2.2 (also known as Froyo) update is coming tomorrow, July 30, 2010, for the HTC Evo 4G, which is supposed to include a variety of new features, such as a handful of (now) pre-loaded widgets, a feature to turn the LED flash on the back for your camera into a flashlight (which would be great for movie theaters), light-assisted 720p video, and “improvement” to the quality of video recording. It also looks like the free Wi-Fi hotspot hack will be sealed off with this update, but that seems to come as a surprise to no one, after all Sprint’s gotta’ make their money. Let’s pray that Sprint sticks to their word and actually releases the update tomorrow, listing it as a “high-priority situation for competitive reasons”, in other words, they’re trying to draw the crowd away from the Droid X. Considering the several month delay for the update to 2.1 for the Samsung Moment and the HTC Hero, it sounds as if only a select number of Sprint customers (ahem, Premier customers) may be getting the update tomorrow.
